How To Replace A Basket Strainer
In case you see a leakage in the drain hole of the sink, you might be able to quickly fix it by just loosening the Basket Strainer and installing some plumber putty under its lips. However, often the basket strainer also gets corroded. It might even break off while you pry it. Replacing it cheap as well as simple.
There are basically 2 types of basket strainers. One is secured by locknut while the other one is held by the plastic retainer as well as 3 screws. Locknut one is usually used for the sinks which are made of stainless steel as the lock nuts tighten against sink without bending metal of the sink.
For removing the old strainer, you need to first detach tail piece. Then you need to remove lock nuts or simply detach retainer screw and then pry old one out.
How to install the locknut strainer
While installing the locknut strainer, you need to close the openings. Then turn the supply of water off. Thereafter remove the old putty from the drain’s opening in sink and completely dry it. Now apply a small amount of plumber putty to flanges of opening and keep the body of the strainer across the opening, firmly pressing spreading the putty evenly.
For securing the strainer, just adjust the washer of rubber as well as metallic washer on the body of the strainer. Then firmly screw on locknuts for holding the basket strainer while working under the sink.
