Immediate Threat Suspensions are Reversible

By CGMIMM Import·April 11, 2026
Immediate Threat Suspension

If the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles has indefinitely suspended your driver’s license due to an immediate threat complaint, with the help of the right lawyer, you may be able to get that indefinite license revocation reversed.

Under Massachusetts law, the Board of Appeal of the MA Division of Insurance has the legal authority to order the Registry of Motor Vehicles to reverse these immediate threat license revocations.

The Registry must satisfy legal requirements to impose this type of license loss and a knowledgeable lawyer can intervene on your behalf. In some cases, the suspensions were not legitimately imposed and the Board of Appeal has ordered MassDOT to terminate the suspensions and allow the customer to reinstate his or her driver’s license.

In order for these suspensions to be legally valid, the Registry must demonstrate that the customer has committed a motor vehicle law violation such that his continued operation would constitute an immediate threat to the motoring public.

If the customer was found not guilty of the underlying motor vehicle law violation, the Board of Appeal is supposed to terminate the indefinite immediate threat revocation and allow the customer to reinstate.

Please contact Attorney Brian Simoneau if you are facing an indefinite license loss due to an immediate threat complaint in Massachusetts.
